Where is Mickey?

I am linking up again with darciaprilchristina + natasha this week.

I just finished a good book. It made me wonder what I would do in the situation that the main character was put in. I could not imagine going through what she did. I would recommend this book.
When reporter Ellen Gleeson gets a “Have You Seen This Child?” flyer in the mail, she almost throws it away. But something about it makes her look again…

The child in the photo looks exactly like Ellen’s adopted son, Will. But how could it be if the adoption was lawful? Everything inside her tells her to deny what she sees. But Ellen  won’t rest until she finds out the truth. And she can’t shake the question: If Will rightfully belongs to someone else, should she keep him or give him up?

Ellen makes the wrenching decision to investigate, following a trail of clues no one was meant to uncover. And when she digs too deep, she risks losing her life—and that of the son she loves

My next book in line to read is The Husband's Secret. I have been told it is a good book and I am looking forward to starting it.

I took my first run outside in forever yesterday. After the first quarter mile my lungs were burning because of the chilly air. It took a little bit to get used to the temperature change. When the female voice came on to give me my pace at 5 minutes I was at a pace of 8:35. My first mile was under 10 minutes which felt good because I had not been out in a while.
I felt good about my pace and I felt like I could do anything when I was done.

Happy Halloween! I finally get to wear the costume I have been working on for weeks. My friend Michelle helped me make the skirt. She put the zipper in it the other day and gave me the finished skirt last night. It fits great so we did not need to do any modifications. I do have white gloves to go with the outfit, but I will get them on later.

It took me a couple minutes to find a spot to get the photo above because it looks like a tornado went through our house. When I left for work Tim was in cleaning mode. He starts cleaning and he does not stop, I cannot wait to see what he got done today when I get home.

He is the best. He likes to clean when he gets in the mood or the house is not spotless. He also is a great cook. We made pulled pork last week for dinner and we still had left overs the other day. While I was still at work Tim started dinner. He made a casserole with the pulled pork, cream of mushroom soup, mozzarella cheese, and steamed broccoli. It was delicious.

I really married the whole package :)

Last night we got home around 8 from our training and I still had to make goodies for Mason's daycare. I made these spookie brownie ghosts and a pumpkin dip for fruit and nilla wafers. I sent some apples in with the dip as well as the nilla wafers.
Mason did not have to go to daycare today because Tim is home, but we didn't want him missing out on the trick or treating with them and the little party they have.

Tonight we will go see family and friends with Mason.

What are your plans? Do you find it easier that Halloween is on a Friday?

Outside Run?

Today I am going to do something I have not done in forever! I am going for a run after work. I need to get 3 miles in today for a challenge, but I did not want to do them on my treadmill because I would go one speed and it would take forever (though I still have Jill Duggar's wedding to watch on the DVR). I just do not have to time today.
I decided this morning that I would pack my gym back with my running gear and run after work. Tim will pick Mason up and I will be home about an hour after getting out of work. Much quicker than the treadmill.

I miss running outside so I am actually (dare I say it?) excited to go today.

Last night I got out of work around 6 and I walked out to a very pretty sunset. I also got home to a fully cooked dinner. It was amazing! I love that Tim gets home around 4:30 now.

Tomorrow is Halloween! I am excited to wear my costume to work and see Mason in his costume. I have a training tonight at the rescue squad and then I have to come home and bake some goodies for Mason's daycare party. He doesn't have to go to daycare tomorrow because Tim is home, but we didn't want him to miss out on the Halloween party so he is going for the morning.

Weigh In Wednesday - Good Bye October

My theme for today is tracking. I want to get back on the tracking train. I know it works, but my problem is I forget to track everything. It is especially hard at night. When we are home at night we limit our phone usage because it is a distraction. After dinner I need to get better at taking out my phone and plugging everything in there.

My MFP username is  ASHZ131 go find me and harass me :)

I had to be to work at 6 this morning so I will get my work out in after dinner tonight. Amanda and I had a nice brisk walk last night. Mason was very good on the walk and even fell asleep towards the end. I got Day 4 in of Level 3 last night. I am ready for the 30 Day Shred

On Monday Amanda and I are starting Shred it with Weights. Neither of us have a kettle ball so we are going to use our regular weights. I have not made it the whole 30 days with this one so we are going to push each other to get it done.

We want to keep the momentum through the holidays. It is so hard to stay on track with all of the holiday goodies and the events, but it is possible!

What are you plans for the rest of 2014? How do you plan on staying on track?

Pumpkin Carving Fun

Things seem to be getting back to normal in our house. I slept in my bed for the entire night last night! Wahoo! It really is all about the small things. Mason seems to be feeling better, but we are still giving him Pedialyte for the diarrhea. He is definitely eating better. I was exhausted yesterday, but I did not want to have another rest day. I decided to get on the treadmill and walk while watching Once Upon A Time and Melissa and Joey. It felt good to move some yesterday. Tonight Mason and I are going for a walk with Amanda and then I am coming home to do the 30 Day Shred.

Last night we decided it was time to carve our pumpkins. I have not done this since I was a kid and Tim was ready to see what he could do. I went on Pinterest and looked up mickey patterns. I knew that Mason would love it :) Tim brought Mason the pattern book that came with the tools and Mason picked a castle (I think Tim picked it, but I was not in the room).
Mason enjoyed trying to get the guts out. I had a bowl of seeds set aside and at one point I caught him scooping them back into the pumpkin.
Tim had to used a tooth pick to mark out the design because I broke the poker from the kit. oops :/
The good news is that neither of us managed to cut ourselves and Mason was pretty happy with the end results. He kept saying Mickey!
Good thing it was not too cold last night. We did take Mason outside for a minute to get some photos. Yes he was watching Sheriff Callie before coming outside, as you can see in the background of the photo.
Not bad for a couple people that have not carved pumpkins in a few years :) I have seen pumpkin carving parties on blogs and Instagram; I think that would be fun! Maybe next year I will try to set something up.

Do you carve pumpkins? Any special designs?

Tired & Sick

What a long rough couple days....

Poor Mason has been sick :( He spent the night at my cousin's house Friday. When we picked him up in the afternoon he was acting fine, but she said that he had some major diarrhea the night before and that morning. I figured it might have been the apple and applesauce he had. He woke up from his nap whiny, but that is normal for us.

We went to a Halloween Parade Saturday night in Vermont. It was a little wet, but not too bad with the temperature in the beginning. Mason was pretty happy seeing all the floats and acting fine.
The boys looking at the flashing lights of the police cars and fire trucks.

We left early because it started to rain harder and we did not want Mason freezing (or me for that matter).
Mason fell asleep in the car on the way home. When we got home I got him up and out of the car. I brought him upstairs to get his pajamas on and as soon as I laid him down and turned to get the clothes he started puking. Tim quickly sat him up and it was the saddest thing. His eyes were screaming "help me." I am not good with puke so Tim got to work cleaning everything and I cleaned up Mason. We got him clean with pajamas on and brought him into bed with us to cuddle. He just looked so sad.

He woke up around midnight and wanted to go to his bed. I was up after about 15 minutes to check on him because he was crying and sure enough he had puked again. An hour later he puked in our bed, then he puked in the living room. The poor kid could not keep anything down. We would try water for hydration and it would come back up.
This is the first episode of this type with him. The worst part for me is the fact that it is no longer just spit up, this looked and smelled like puke.

Tim and I barely slept all night. Mason was up at 6:30. he wanted a snack and milk, but we just gave him Pedialyte. I was worried that he would get dehydrated. Tim and I did manage to get some cat naps in during the day, taking turns of course.

He seemed to be getting better last night and acting like a two year old again. Well he was still a little lethargic and uneasy on his feet, but he wanted to play with his toys. He had some plain toast, oyster crackers, and applesauce throughout the day.

I ended up going to squad duty last night until midnight because he was feeling better. He was fine for Tim and he went to be fine. He was up around 2 not feeling well this morning and then he was up at 4 crying. He did not stop crying until his body gave up around 5:30. I was dressed and ready to take him to the ER if it did not stop. We think it might have been tummy pain from the way he was moving and acting. He kept telling us no, but who knows.

He fells back asleep on the living room floor and I covered him up and left him. I grabbed my blanket and slept on the couch near him.

Today I feel like I have been hit by a truck. My head hurts and I don't feel the greatest, but I am pretty sure it is from the lack of sleep in the last 72 hours. I have not worked out since Friday! I want to work out today, but we will see how my body feels.

Mason has eaten breakfast today and he seems to be feeling better. I am still giving him Pedialyte for the diarrhea. Whatever this morning was must be fine now. Hopefully it stays this way. We will not be going to swimming lessons today. I don't want those other children getting whatever he had and I don't want to take him out so soon after this craziness.

Thankfully I have today off so Mason and I can stay in today and catch up on some sleep and rest.

5 On Friday

I am linking up again with darciaprilchristina + natasha this week.

I love when Mason wakes up happy. The last couple days he has not really wanted to get up, but then he is all giggles and smiles when I am getting him dressed. Makes my mommy guilt decrease a little for having to get him up in the first place.

We may have a future photographer on our hands. Every time Mason sees my big camera he says "cheese" and wants it. Instead of saying no all the time I started letting him have it and showing him how to take a photo.
He has not taken any great shots yet, but he loves trying. Maybe one day he can take my workout photos instead of me trying to do it.

I am currently trying to get next Saturday night off. I have had weekends off for a couple months and one of the Saturdays I am actually scheduled to work the regional EMS Counsel plans an awards dinner. Now this would not be a big deal any other year, but I did win Co-Communications Specialist of the year for the region.

It is pretty nice to win an award for a job you do everyday. The dinner is in Lake Placid and that just happens to be one of my favorite places :)

I have been looking into Advocare again. I feel like I do this when I get in a slump. I really want to try something new to jump start my weight loss again. I am just on the fence about the price. Could someone reading this who is a distributor email me {nutmeg0507@gmail.com}, I have some questions about the whole process and such :)

Have you tried it? Any luck with it?

That is it for me today... I am going home early today, I have to get my workout in and bring Mason to my cousin's for the night. Happy Friday!

Planners Make Me Happy

My favorite time of year when I was in school was back to school time when we got to go shopping for school supplies. I could live in Staples! I still love office supplies and I may buy stuff I probably don't need.

I ended up getting a discount code for an Erin Condren Planner and I jumped on it. It was still a little more than I would normally pay for a planner, but this will make me stay up to date with it and use it all of the time.

I was like a kid on Christmas morning when I saw the box on my doorstep. I opened it up and took it with me to work that night. I could not wait to start plugging all of my information and events into it.

I paid a little extra to get the rest of 2014 included so I could use it right away. Another obsession I have is Sharpies! I have a special Sharpie holder in the house to hold all of my pens. I like to color code things and events. Notice that swimming is in blue, squad stuff is in pink, work is in purple, and running is in black. I do not follow the same pattern every month because I like to mix it up.

Stickers! Included are a whole bunch of stickers! I love stickers. These are really helpful too. They have stickers for birthdays, doctor appointments, dentist, games, concerts, and even one that says sale! There are a couple blank pages of stickers so you can make your own if you need to.

I am a person that likes to look ahead. There is a section in the planner that has two years ahead of what the planner covers.

I love the designs on the blank pages. There is also a page with a pocket in it. This is great for things that you want to keep, but do not want falling out of the planner.

Every detail in this planner is amazing. The company puts a lot of thought into the details of the planners. It took me a while to choose the design because a lot of them are great and really cute!

These planners are a little pricey and I am not sure that I would have bought one without the discount, but they are quality planners. The planner seems durable and will definitely last me a full year.

What do you think? Do you have one? Do you use an actual planner or do you use your phone?

Weigh In Wednesday

Saturday I ran a 5k with Amanda and Michelle. It was a little chilly at the start of the race. When I woke up that morning it was pouring outside and I got a little nervous. The sun was trying to come out when we first arrived.
This race is hosted by the fire department. They encourage fire fighters in the area to wear their fire gear to run the race. Surprisingly there are quite a few that come in the their gear and finish the race in it. Michelle decided to be creative. She took an old fire coat and made a skirt (kilt) to run in.
My first mile in this race was my fastest every! I did it in 9:07 - I could not believe it. I was in shock. I pushed myself, maybe a little too much. I ended up getting a couple cramps that slowed me down. I finish a little over 32 minutes, but I am still proud of myself.
The best part of this race is the scenery. Vermont is so pretty in the fall and this small town has some nice features.

I did this race two years ago after having Mason and walked most of it and was just happy to finish. Now I run most of the race and I feel great!

Amanda and I went for a short walk on Monday. Neither of us were feeling the whole walk thing. I did the last day of Level 2 of the 30 Day Shred in the morning as well as a walk on the treadmill. I was feeling lazy that afternoon, but I took my walk and then I went to swimming lessons with Mason.
Mason did great at swimming! He even swam without me holding him! He had a pool noodle under his arms and he was kicking his feet and swimming! It is so amazing to see his progress :)

After swimming it was pretty nice out so we decided to rake some leaves and mow the lawn one last time. Mason was having a blast raking up the leaves or more so playing in the leaves.
Notice something? Yup I ran in the house and grabbed my big girl camera instead of using just my phone.

I was supposed to take a rest day yesterday. I did take a rest day from the 30 Day Shred, but I ended up getting on the treadmill. I wanted to watch Once Upon a Time from the other night so I had to get on the treadmill. It is my own personal rule - if I watch any of my shows on the DVR I have to be on the treadmill.

Today I am starting Level 3 of the 30 Day Shred. I do not really remember what I am in for, but I do remember this part working on my love handles last time :)

My weight this morning was.... 176.6

I am trying to get control of my eating - much easier said than done. It is amazing how I can get back into the routine of working out, but I can't get my eating under control.

How are things going for you?
