GYSTS14 Finale & Giveaway

Wow I cannot believe it is the last day of September!

I learned a few things this month...
  • I am terrible at hosting challenges when I am not in my groove
  • I have been majorly slacking
  • I did not post enough on Instagram
I loved seeing all of your Instagram and Facebook posts. I hope that this was a motivating month for you all. I did not lose much weight this month, but I stayed about the same. This is better than gaining.

I feel like I need a routine to get my groove back. I mentioned this to my friend Amanda and I also mentioned I like the results of the 30 Day Shred. We decided that we would do the 30DS in October, but because we both like things that start on Mondays we started yesterday.
I know the program works and I like it. Amanda and I are doing it together this month so I have a partner to push me. I even woke up bright and early this morning to get my workout in before work. We have a walk planned for this evening after dinner so double calorie burn today.

As promised there is a giveaway in this post. I have a few of my favorite things up for grabs.

First up is a $20 gift card to Kiki La'Rue. Who doesn't need something cute for fall?

Next up are a couple things I cannot live without during a workout - 2 Fleurty Bands! I use them all the time to keep my hair back and I love Jasmine - the company's owner!

I have a few things from Abundant Heart Apparel and I am always impressed. I have a shirt with writing on it and the letters are all still there. The shirts with sayings on them that I have gotten from other companies have letters that start peeling off after the first wash. They are giving away a T-shirt of your choice.

Momentum Jewelry is a company that I recently found and I really like them. I will be posting a review post soon on a couple of their items. They are giving the winner a choice of a Motivation Wrap or Foot Notes.

I am also giving away a $10 gift card to Target and a $15 gift card to iTunes.

There are lots of ways to get entries. You get lots of entries if you have participated in the #GYSTS14 challenge. Winner will be announced next Thursday October 9th.

How did you do this month? What is your favorite thing in the giveaway?

Love This Time of Year

What a beautiful weekend we had. The weather was unusually warm for the end of September and we took full advantage of it. Tim having Fridays off is amazing. We went apple picking Friday at the same place we have been going for over 5 years - Bowman's Orchard. It is a nice orchard with lots of choices and stuff to do.
That middle photo on the bottom cracks me up, he was trying to hard to get those apples off. He was loving the apples, he probably ate a whole apple if you combine on the bites he took out of them.
I find it so weird that we were wearing shorts and t-shirts to go apple picking. Last year around this time I was wearing jeans, a long sleeve shirt, and boots.

Saturday Tim and I dropped Mason off with my mom in the morning and we were headed east. One of Tim's friends from college had a 30th birthday party so we decided to go out and see him and a couple other people he went to school with. We took our time getting to Boston so it was like a 5 hour car ride. We stopped at a parking area near a trail head so climb up to a viewing spot. The colors are almost at peak.

We ended up getting to the Boston area with enough time to check into our hotel and then head to the party. It was a surprise party with a cheesy workout wear theme. We did not really dress up, I did have a running skort on because it was so hot out so I guess I did dress somewhat appropriate.

Nick was truly surprised and he was really surprised to see us at the party considering we have not seen him since Mason was born. His girlfriend did a great job organizing the party and keeping it a secret.

Sunday we got to sleep in until 8:15! We also woke up without anyone yelling "Mommy, Mom, Mommy!" We got up showered, and got our stuff to the car before heading to get breakfast in the hotel. We were on the road by 9:30.
The one stop we made was at the Yankee Candle flagship store in Deerfield, MA. We have been there one other time and like it so we went back.
When we arrived they were unloading a very large pumpkin for one of their fall outdoor displays. That right there is a 1223 lb pumpkin from a couple town north of us in VT. We thought the local connection was pretty interesting.
Walking through this place is like walking through a mall. There are different areas of interest such as the country store, the man cave, there is a Christmas area, a toy store, a museum, a little food court, and of course a big section of candles.

By the time we got home last night we had enough energy to play outside. We had to because it was #activenationday and Mason was full of energy when we picked him up so he needed to burn off some energy.

How was your weekend? Any fun fall events? I bet it was a perfect weekend for a wedding!

Today is #ActionNationDay, Lorna Jane wanted to get everyone moving and grooving! I even got out there and did the #LJMove for you all.
I think this is a great campaign. I love seeing hashtags and national days for activities. I think as a nation we are very lazy. I know that I was stuck in a lazy rut for years until after my wedding and seeing my photos. I feel amazing now that I make it a point to move everyday.

Tim and I had a busy weekend, but when we got home with Mason this evening we were outside playing and being active. We could have just gone inside and sat on the couch and lounged, but we didn't. Mason had energy and so did we so we played and put up fall decorations.

Mason was even helping up with the decorations.
Such a good helper. He loves that wheel barrow.

I decided to try making some Indian Corn decorations. Tim got some from a co-worker for free so it was a very cheap decision.
I don't think it turn out too badly. I ended up having enough for two so Amanda is getting one.

Let's try to move daily. We don't need an Active Nation Day, we should be moving everyday and staying active.

Thinking Ahead This Year

I am starting another three day weekend after I get out of work at 4 today. We have plans to go apple picking tomorrow and then we are off to Boston on Saturday.

The plan is to drive out to Boston on Saturday morning and check out Boston then we have a party to go to. It is a Birthday party for one of Tim's college friends. I am a little disappointed with the weather. It is supposed to be in the 80s this weekend. I know I should not be complaining about nice weather, but it is fall and I want to wear jeans, boots, and sweaters.

My kid has some fashion sense... not! The other day he got upset when I put the wrong sneakers on him so I decided to start letting him choose what he wants. That backfired on me this morning. I asked him what shoes he wanted to wear and he chose sandals. He already had socks on so I just went with it.
Yes that is a green pumpkin next to Mason. Tim took him to a pumpkin patch that a co-worker has and he told him to pick out a pumpkin. Mason chose a small one first and then Tim told him to pick a big one. He chose the green one and would not change his mind.

I have never been big on Halloween until Mason came along. Last year on Halloween Mason was going to be a mouse and at the last minute I decided I wanted to be a cat. I ran to Walmart and bought some black tape and a black feather boa. I also looked for Halloween make-up but couldn't find any.
Not bad for a last minute decision.

This year I am putting a little more planning into our costumes. I was trying to think of another matching idea for Mason and I. I wanted to do Tim as Mickey, me as Minnie, and Mason as Pluto. Pluto is so hard to find for a toddler. Now we are going with Mason as Mickey because he loves him. I will be Minnie and maybe we can find some dog ears for Tim.

I decided to make a skirt for me to wear, it will be cheaper than trying to find a polka dot skirt. This is my first item of clothing since junior high Home-Ec that I am going to attempt making.  I ordered a headband with ears and a bow online for under $5. I plan on wearing black tights, a black long sleeve shirt, white gloves, and black heels.
I have the material and I think I have the pattern I want to make. Michelle said she would help me if I needed it. I may need her help, but I want to try to understand the directions and see what I can accomplish.

I ordered Mason's costume from Toys-R-Us because we had a gift card and it was cheaper than trying to find all the pieces to make the costume.

What have you decided for Halloween? Do you try to match as a family? Will I end up being that mom?

Weigh In Wednesday

I did not realize that scales take the little round batteries. I thought I could just change the AAA batteries in it this morning, turns out I was wrong. I need to get to the store and get a battery.

I got some treadmill time in yesterday morning and we went for a walk with Amanda in the afternoon. Mason was asleep within ten minutes of starting our walk.

I was in a baking mood again last night. I wanted to make something with pumpkin in it. I decided to make some muffins for Tim and my co-workers. I tasted them last night by taking a little chunk off the top of one and it was pretty good. I thought this was pretty good considering I remembered I forgot to put the butter in the batter when they were baking in the oven. This morning I tried to have another one and the paper liner was stuck on it and the texture was a little off with the muffins. Oops... I will have to try again sometime.

A co-worker also had a birthday Monday so I made him some brownies with peanut butter frosting. I was good and only had a small brownie with no frosting for my after dinner dessert.

I was shocked this morning when I saw that I had reached 1,000 follower on Instagram! How exciting. I feel very blessed to have so many followers and to have the encouragement. Thanks!

Don't forget to link up with Heather, Erin, and I this week :) Don't forget to visit some other ladies too and give them encouragement!

Fall is Here

Happy first full day of Fall :)

Did anyone watch the Big bang Theory last night? I love Sheldon, he was pretty funny last night. After we watch Big bang we watched a new show, Scorpion. I did not think it was too bad and I might keep watching it.

I have the day off today so Mason and I are relaxing this morning. I am going to get some laundry done and the house picked up. I feel like every couple days my laundry baskets are full. How does this happen? My living room is a disaster area, but I have accepted that my whole house will not be spotless all the time with a toddler.

We are meeting Amanda this afternoon for a walk. It looks like it is going to be a perfect fall day weather wise.

Tonight I might make something pumpkin. I found a can of pumpkin in my cupboard the other night and I want to make something. What should I make? What is your favorite pumpkin recipe?

Come back tomorrow for Weigh In Wednesday. :)

Saturday was my first race since the half marathon in June. It was actually my first time running outside since then. I have been speed walking on the treadmill with an 8% incline, but I hate running on the treadmill.
I went to this race thinking that I would do my best and enjoy it. I was not expecting much because I have not been training.

It was chilly when we got to the race and I was not about to take off my sweatshirt and just have a t-shirt on. Michelle went to the front of the pack because she is a fast runner than Amanda and me.

Amanda and I started out great. After I hit the half mile mark I started to think I could run a mile before having to speed walk for a bit. I ended up running a full 1.1 miles and then speed walking for a minute or two. My first mile was under ten minutes! It was actually 9:28! That is crazy. I felt great throughout the race so I kept pushing myself. Interesting enough my Timehop app showed me a post from last year when I had my fastest mile at 10:31 so I have improved my mile time by a minute.
I started to feel how much I pushed myself on Saturday night. I am still sore today. It was worth it though.

Mason and I have swimming lessons this afternoon at 4. I plan on getting on the treadmill when we get home to finish watching last week's Biggest Loser episode.

How was your weekend?

Weekend Thoughts

Good Morning weekend readers! We had a busy week with schedules being off so I did not get around to posting much last week. I plan on posting more this week. This is the last week of the #GYSTS14 challenge. There is a good giveaway at the end of the month so make sure you are using the hashtag on Instagram, Facebook, and/or Twitter.

The winner of the iTunes gift card is.... Jacquie G (starri09)
Email me at nutmeg0507 (@) gmail.com

When did my little boy get so big? He looks like a little boy more and more everyday instead of my baby.

When I pulled into the driveway after my 5k yesterday I got a text from Tim with the photo below that said - "Better get home, Daddy's got the cutters out"
I walked in and saw this little guy in his high chair just like this. He was happy as a clam. Tim did a good job cutting his hair and we discovered we can cut his hair ourselves.

Naps are great aren't they? I ended up napping with Mason yesterday afternoon and it was a good thing I did. I ended up at work from 4pm yesterday until 5 am this morning. Mason and I laid down in my bed for naptime and I ended up falling asleep.

It is supposed to be a rainy dreary day here in NY. I plan on sleeping for a few hours this morning and then going to get Mason from my cousin. Then hopefully coming back home to spend the rest of the day inside lounging.

Have a great Sunday! Tomorrow I will recap the race that has me so sore today!
