Cuddle Bug

What a chilly morning it was today. Today's Elf4Health Challenge is to see how many colors I can eat in one day. I have had a banana, a hot chocolate, a grapefruit, & a yogurt so far. I did not have a lot of choices this morning in the fridge. Tonight's dinner will probably be left overs from last night. My mom came over last night for dinner and said she was in the mood for a casserole. I decided to make Pizzagna and it was delicious!
I learned a lesson this morning- do not fall back asleep for just 45 minutes if you have already been up for half an hour. I feel like crap now, I should have gotten out of bed like I wanted to and gotten my workout in this morning instead of doing it tonight. I was dumb though and laid back down. Look who I had to cuddle with though -

Here is Mason holding Nutmeg's paw. She was laying next to him and when she brought her paw up Mason grabbed it. I am not a fan of having Mason in our bed. Tim brought him in this morning after feeding him because he was cold. Our bed is definitely not big enough for Mason to sleep with us. I am also worried that I will rollover on him of the cat will lay on him. I am a pretty heavy sleeper at times and I just don't want to take the chance.
A couple weeks ago we had some family pictures done. We did a few outside with the foliage and then did some inside for Christmas cards. I cannot wait to do more stuff with Mason as he gets older.

I love the little pumpkin hat he has, a friend from work made it for him.

He is always holding his hands.

We tried to do some stuff with white lights.
Christmas cards have been ordered and are ready to be addressed.

4 Months

Good evening all!
Last night Mason & I had a little time to ourselves while Daddy went to the firehouse. We watched The Grinch & played on the floor.
Watching The Grinch with his socks like Daddy usually has them.
My little angel - Love this
And this is how he looked when Daddy got home.

I have had a pretty productive day. We (Mason & I) woke up around 7:30 ready for the day. I fed him and put him in his Rock n Play so I could get a workout in. The Elf for Health Challenge for the day was to try a new workout. I decided to try something other than a treadmill workout so I went with a circuit one. I knew right where to go for a good one - Courtney has posted a lot of circuit workouts in the past and I have never tried one - until today.
Mason was fast asleep when I finished so I took a shower and got ready for the day. He woke up mad... He acted like he was starving. Sometimes he wakes up happy and talkative and other times he acts like I have not fed him in days. I gave him a bottle and got him dressed. We then attempted to get some pictures for his 4 month mark.

These are the best ones I got. He makes so many faces, I could not get him to give me a good smile though.

After pictures were done it was time to leave for the doctor. Mason had his 4 month appointment today. I think I was more nervous than he was. I cried like I was the one getting the shots last night. He is doing well. He is taller than 85% of other boys his age.
While we were waiting for the doctor to come in Mason was busy on the table...
He just kept kicking his legs and cooing & laughing.

I am now at work feeling that circuit workout this morning.

Weekly Weigh In

Look what I saw this morning on the scale!
I did not weigh myself yesterday because I felt like dog shit awful. Around nine o'clock last night I felt fine. It was weird because an hour prior I was in bed feeling awful. I woke up this morning feeling great. I definitely feel 100% better than I did yesterday.
I think the illness had something to do with the 4 pounds I lost, but I will take it. I am hoping that the Elf for Health challenge will help with losing weight from now to the beginning of January.
Boy I am in a great mood today! My little guy is 4 months old today. I will do a 4 months post tomorrow after our doctor's appointment. I am not looking forward to it because of the shots :(. Him being 4 months means I have not bitten my nails in 4 months - wahoo! I am loving actually having nails.
I have lost 30 pounds in 4 months, not bad... hoping for 47.6 more in the future.
I wrote notes to a few friends and it made me feel really great to actually write them. I love getting mail so I hope they do too. I just have to get stamps after work today and mail them. #Elf4Health
Oh and check out my post for Women Connect 2012.

The Struggles of Weight Loss

I started following From Mrs to Mama a few weeks ago and I really enjoy her blog. She came up with this great idea to connect women from all over and different ways of life. I have been trying to figure out what to write about since she announced she was doing this. It is tough to come up with ideas. Do I write about being a new mom? A new(ish) wife? A girl trying to lose weight and feel great about herself? Someone still dealing with the loss of a parent? There are so many possibilities.
I decided to go with being a new mom & trying to lose weight.
Hello! My name is Ashlee and I am a new mom and I am overweight. I have been overweight for as long as I can remember. I graduated high school around 165 lbs and I thought I was heavy then.
Senior Picture - Circa 2004
I started dating my now husband, Tim, a month before I graduated. Over the next six years I gained a whopping 60 pounds. I think that this happens quite often - people get into a relationship and get comfortable. Getting comfortable for me meant gaining weight. I knew it was not good, but I did not have the willpower or energy to do anything about it. On top of being in a great relationship I was going to school full time and working full time. I felt like I did not have time for anything extra, especially working out or eating healthy. Don't get me wrong I had tried diets in the past, but nothing really stuck with me, I would have a bad day and throw in the towel for the whole thing.

In May of 2011 Tim & I got married! When we got engage in June 2010 I was determined for the first week to lose weight and look great on my wedding day. I was so disappointed when May came and I was still over 200 lbs. I think I was 216 on my wedding day.
Rehearsal Dinner
In July of 2011 I had an appointment with a new gynecologist. After getting married I wanted a new doctor that would also act as an OB when needed in the near future. I stepped on their scale and saw 223 lbs. Oh. My. Goodness. I was not very happy with myself. The doctor noticed that my blood pressure was very high for my age and suggested I see my regular doctor. That is the day I believe that my life turned around. I made an appointment with my regular doctor about my blood pressure and attended my first Weight Watcher meeting all in the same week. I also started this blog that week. I wanted to blog about my journey and hopefully help others and keep myself accountable.
From the end of July 2011 until the end of November 2011 I lost almost 30 pounds. I was feeling better and I had lost two pant sizes. At the end of November I found out I was pregnant. My mind went a little whacky. I still lost seven more pounds from the end of November and the beginning of January, but after that I had "pregnancy brain."
I figured I was going to gain weight anyway so why worry about eating the occasional fat filled food. I craved chili cheese nachos like crazy. I still walked everyday and I did walk right up until three days before Mason was born. The day I had Mason I weighed 228 lbs. I had gained roughly 40 lbs during my pregnancy.
I knew that it would take time so I did not stress about my weight during the first couple months. I was learning how to be a mom and adjusting to this whole new world I was in now. I did start walking two weeks after he was born. I missed walking and it got me outside and in fresh air with Mason.
Mason is now 4 months old and I am struggling to get back into my weight loss groove. I started Weight Watchers again a few weeks ago, the online version this time because of my limited time now. I have been hovering around 200 lbs for a few weeks now. I am working at it - I keep reminding myself of how great I felt when I was in the 180's, imagine how I would feel in the 170's or 160's.

I am learning that I need to find time for myself.

I am learning that it is hard to find the time to workout, but I need to do it. When I feel lazy and don't want to get up and move I think of a quote I read a while ago - "You will never regret working out, but you will regret not doing it"

I am learning that being a mom to Mason is important, but to keep my whole family sane I need to be sane.

I am learning that I can live without the ten hours of sleep at night, so why can't I get up a little earlier and get a workout in?

I am learning that being a mom really is very rewarding and an amazing feeling.

I am learning that it is a struggle everyday to keep balance, but it is all worth it in the end.

Elf for Health

Today is the first day in the Elf for Health Challenge I signed up for with Lindsey from The Lean Green Bean.

Today's challenge is Meatless Monday. I am starting off great with this:
Tim had a stomach bug on Friday and could not get out of bed... Guess who has it today? Of course I would get it the day I am supposed to go back to work after a mini vacation. I did have Tim take Mason to daycare because I feel awful. It is also already paid for so he might as well go there an me try to rest and get better.
Due to being sick I am going to wait until tomorrow to weigh in this week. I just don't feel like doing it right now.
I will be doing updates on the challenge throughout the month.
Here is a little recap of our weekend with Instagram...
Mommy & Mason before going to Nain's
We put Mason in Nain's chair to see how he would do sitting. He actually likes sitting up and looking around.
This is our church outfit yesterday. We are trying to get his Baptism set up.

Time for me to get back in bed...

Black Friday

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Tim has been sick all day today - nausea and tummy ache. I knew it was not good when he actual took that nasty tasting Pepto-Bismol. No one takes that unless they are really sick. One downside to Tim being sick? I did not get a turkey sandwich for lunch, I had sent all the leftovers home with his mom thinking we would be up there today.

Another downside to Tim being sick was that I did not get to go black Friday shopping. Bummer. I did get to place an order online, well I had to call and place it because this is what the website showed me -
In my dreams!! I wish it was all free :) hehe
I did manage to get most of the Christmas decorations out today and get the outside lights up. It was beautiful out today so I was glad I got a chance to take advantage of the weather.

Yesterday was great. I walked a 5k in the morning for Alissa's Thankful Healthy Blogger 5k. I walk 3.5 mph at a 7.5% incline. It went by fast because I was watching the newest Hart of Dixie episode. I do love that show!
Our dinner was great and the desserts I made were delicious. I made this Peanut Butter Brownie Trifle and some mini pumpkin pies. I want to share the recipe for both of those and the scalloped corn I made yesterday - stay tuned.
We tried to get a family picture but if Mason was looking at the camera Tim was making a funny face so this is the best one we got.

Look at the look on his face - this kid cracks me up!
Have a great weekend all!
