Weekend Thoughts End of March

Oh the weekend is here. I am at work today until 5:30, but it is still the weekend! WHERE DID MARCH GO? This is crazy to me that it is going to be April tomorrow. Time seems to be flying by.
*There was a sad story from Vermont this week. There was a teacher in eastern VT that was lured from her home last Sunday night when a couple called her and told her they had broken down and needed help. Her vehicle was found hours later with her 2 y/o unharmed in the vehicle. From reading one of the articles it sounds like the people that killed this young woman were just looking for something to do on a Sunday night. What kind of people are in this world? How awful and to even leave her 2 y/o son in the car for someone else to find. Miss Jenkins was smart in the respect that she did call a friend and tell them she was going out to help this couple, but it makes you wonder why she did not ask the friend to come with her. This was a small town in VT, shows you that you need to be cautious.
*The Lucky One comes to theatres April 20th. I really want to see this movie! I enjoy Nicholas Sparks' books and I love when they are made into movies. The book is always better, but I like when the stories I read come to life. It is really weird to see Zac Efron in an adult movie. I do not think I have ever seen him in a movie, but I remember when he was in those kids movies a few years ago.
*I am working on a baby blanket! I am crocheting the blanket and will have a post on it soon. :)

* I read an interesting article on TodayShow.com this week. It was about eat your placenta for healthy reasons. I had to click on the article and see what this story was about. It is an interesting article that tells how the placenta's nutrients can help with post-partum depression and with fatigue. You are not actually eating the placenta, but ingesting it. Many people have it freeze dried and then put into powder form to put in a capsule to take with your morning vitamins. This must cost a fortune, but I am still on the fence on whether or not I would actually do this if it were free. It is a little odd.

*I have cleaned out the baby's room of almost all of my stuff. I just have to move the bed and nightstand into the office. That means my office with be part guest room now :/ Oh well. There is room so what the heck. I cleaned out the closet and all that is left is my maternity clothes and baby stuff.

Well that is all for now... I have to get ready to go home soon :)

Eating Update...

What happened to this blog being about weight loss and health? I have not done any posts about how I am doing health wise and my exercises. Let's start with the eating updates...
I am ashamed to admit that I have not been eating the best. I am trying, but my mind gets stuck on a food and I want it!
I have been trying to get fruit into my diet at least once a day if not twice. I really like bananas, green apples, & strawberries so I have been trying to stock up when they are on sale. If I do not end up eating the bananas I put them in a Ziploc bag in the freezer. You can use them for bread, smoothies, or any other banana recipes you want. I actually just saw that granny smith apples are on sale next week at Price Chopper! They last a while and will be fine in the fridge for a few weeks so I can buy a dozen or so.
I need to get better at having fruit with my meals or as a snack. I am a picky eater so I do not like when fruit is mixed with things such as yogurt. I can do some smoothies because it is mixed in thoroughly, but I cannot mixed my strawberries in my yogurt.
I am very excited to get my veggie garden planted. Tim expanded the garden so instead of a "T" shape I now have a "H" shaped garden. I plan on planting scallions, peas, cucumbers, summer squash, carrots, pumpkins, zucchini, beans, and green peppers. The chives have already started coming up and they are probably ready to use.
I have been eating salads and such trying to make sure I get some veggies.

Both my doctor and the reading that I have done on pregnancy both say that I need calcium and lots of it. I take a multi-vitamin now. The Prenatal vitamins are like horse pills but I take them every morning like I am supposed to. The reading says I need 1,000 mg of calcium per day whether I am pregnant or not. I am not a milk drinker so I have been trying to get my calcium in by eating yogurt. I have not been very good about this in the past few weeks. I am ashamed to admit that too. Boy this is a post full of shame. After the vitamin I need roughly 800 mg of calcium a day which is about 3 Yoplait yogurts. That is quite a bit of yogurt. I am trying to drink the milk that I have with my cereal even though I am not a fan of regular milk. I also try to eat almonds during the day which have some calcium in them.

Those are some of the areas that I need to definitely work on. I plan on counting points again, I know, I know I think I have said that before. I really need to kick myself into gear. My mind has gone all wacky being pregnant. I know what I need to be doing, but I am letting myself get stupid. Does that even make sense? I have not felt the greatest in the last few months and I think it has to do with my eating habits and the fact that I have been over eating.

My plan starting Monday (Don't judge - I have always done better when I start on a Monday)
-Start counting points
-Get my food journal back out
-Put more veggies & fruit in my diet
-Get a yogurt in a day & another source of calcium
-Limit eating out to once or twice a month - make smart choices

**I will not follow the points system as closely as before I will be adding more points to my daily allowance due to being pregnant. I do not want anyone thinking I am starving the baby or myself.

Wish me luck!

Feeling Good

Yesterday was a great day! I do not know what it was but I felt amazing yesterday. I walked 4.1 miles on the treadmill and it went by quick. I was so into watching The Biggest Loser on the DVR that I did not even pay attention to my distance. I felt great after.
It was an overall good day. I got sleep the night before so I felt rested. I had the day off from work, which probably was part of why I felt good. It was nice to have a day of feeling good about myself.
I have been feeling very uncomfortable at night. My lower abdominal area and my sides feel "tight", it is hard to get comfortable enough to fall asleep and it is a pain when I wake up in the middle of the night. I am hoping this will not last for the next four and a half months.
I have been feeling the little guy moving more now. I think he is practicing for the Summer Olympics lol. I cannot wait for Tim to be able to feel him move too. We have tried a few times just putting his hand on my tummy, but he has not felt anything. I am 23 weeks pregnant today, that is crazy to me! I cannot believe I am almost 6 months already!

Sick of Being Sick!

I am so ready for a night of restless sleep! I have been sick since last Wednesday with a runny, nose, sore throat, and an ear ache. The only thing I can really take is Robitussin so I took that for the days that were really crappy and unbearable. I did not want to overdue it. I am sure the baby is not enjoying all the coughing. It probably feels like a roller coaster in there. I really enjoyed the warm weather last week, but I think that was the cause of my sickness. The weather has been whacky, right now it is in the 30's here and very chilly. I am feeling better today, but was up most of the night coughing. This is crazy I have never coughed with a cold like this until this year. Back in December I was sick like this too.
Now onto other news! I ordered our crib Saturday! I am very excited it was $300 at JcPenny online and when I went to look at it on Saturday it was on sale for $150! I could not believe it. The $150 included the shipping price. I called my mom and asked if she wanted to get the points for her JCP Credit Card and she gave me her number and told me not to worry about it. I am going to try to find an unfinished dressed/hutch maybe to try to stain myself to match the crib.
The bedding was shipping over the weekend, so that should be here this weekend. It is amazing to me how fast this is going and how close we are getting. We are past the halfway mark and July is not that far away.
I also had time on Sunday to make cupcakes for Tim's mom to take to work for the March Birthdays. I got home from work at 2 on Sunday and Tim had already made the cupcakes, I just had to make the frosting and frost them. He is such a HUGE help! He cleaned up around the house this weekend too. I am very lucky to have him. I do not think he realizes that the little things he does are a huge help to me. I like things clean and neat and I cannot rest or relax sometimes because I have to pick things up. When things are done, I can just relax in my down time, it helps especially when I am sick.

Today is my Friday! I am working 4-12 tonight with tomorrow off! I cannot wait for a day off. A day with nothing to do! Now though I am going to go get on the treadmill and get my walk in.

Baby Shopping

I could not sleep in this morning because I could not breathe, but apparently another animal in the house did not have a problem taking my spot...

I am feeling crappy still! I have a stuffy nose and a sore throat, but I had to get out of this house. I had plans to go look at the bedding set I like at Buy Buy Baby today so I kept those. It was fun! Now that we know we are having a little boy it is easier to choose things like bedding or clothing ;)
I ended up ordering the bedding :) They did not have it in store, but because I ordered it from the store I got to use my 20% off coupon- SCORE! I ended up saving around $40
Here is a picture from the website:
I cannot wait to see it up close so I can start working on the colors of the nursery. I am getting excited :) I felt great today too! Body wise - not so much with the head cold. I put on my maternity capris I got from Old Navy and they make me feel tiny (I use this word because for someone who started at 220 last July a size 12 and 190 lbs is tiny) and pregnant. I am gaining most of my weight in my belly which is great!
Here are some of the onesies I got today on sale :)

The next two I got for $4 at a consignment shop we checked out today :)

Have a great weekend!

21 Weeks Pictures

Well I am exhausted! I did not sleep well last night. My throat and ears have been hurting for a few days and then before bed last night my nose became stuffy. It was a rough night - trying to breath and get comfortable.
The good news is I walked a total of 6.5 miles yesterday. I walked 3 miles on the treadmill after my clothes were all taken care of. The walk last night with Judy was night. It was the perfect temperature and it felt good to be outside walking again. I am loving this weather! It is supposed to cool down next week though, but I have to remember that it is only March.
I wanted to share some of the great pictures taken by Nicole Christine on Saturday.

Enjoy your Thursday!

Non Scale Victory

Yes I just said non scale victory at 5.5 months pregnant. I am working taking my summer clothes out and putting the winter stuff away today. While looking through one of the boxes I found a pair of shorts that were way too small last summer. I had ordered them in 2010 I think from American Eagle during one of their big sales and got the shorts for under $10. I have been known to order clothes in sizes smaller than I am in hopes of losing weight. These were size 16. I was in an 18 for shorts and some materials last summer. When I found them this morning I thought - I know I am pregnant, but I am still doing well and have lost 30+ pounds. What the heck I am going to try them on!
I could not believe it, they are even a little big. I was so happy. I could definitely wear them right now, we will have to see when my pregnant tummy gets bigger if they will still work, but I am happy! I am still wearing a size 12 in maternity clothing and I can still get into my normal jeans but the button does not like closing now... good thing I like belts.

I do not think I have mentioned this yet, but this pregnancy has been amazing and scary at the same time. I have been extremely blessed because I have had a healthy first and second trimester. I have not had any issues that are notable. (I did have those awful abdominal pains in December, but I figured it was normal, it was so I do not count that as an issue) My problem has been in my mind with two areas.
The first area is food. I definitely have been through days when I have the mindset that I am pregnant so I do not have to pay too close attention to what I eat and how much. I have to keep a better eye on myself, especially now that it is almost soft serve ice cream season! I have been trying really hard to keep things in the house that will be ok for me to reach for instead of cookies and junk food. I love granny smith apples :)
The second area is my tummy. Before I started this weight loss journey I was always conscious of this pod I had in my abdominal area and I was always trying to cover it up. When I lost 30 pounds I finally felt like I did not have to be self conscious of my tummy. I felt great! I knew I had more work to do, but I was getting there. Now I have this tummy back. I know it is a good thing because I am creating a human life and he needs room to grow. There are certain outfits that make me feel pregnant and others that I will change out of because I feel tubby. I seem to be gaining my weight now in my tummy area which is good instead of all over.

Ok now that I have taken a short break to write this I have to get back to cleaning my bedroom! There are clothes everywhere :)

Anyone have any non-scale victories this week?

Baby Z is a...

I am sorry it has taken me a few days to get this posted… I meant to do it yesterday but got caught up making some cupcakes and going to work…
Now onto the story of Saturday...
Thank goodness we did not get home from the show Friday night until around 1 in the morning. I was tired which helped because I was so anxious for the next day to come. I woke up at 8 and was ready to cut the cake! I got up and got things ready for the Luncheon. I made a delicious Sausage casserole which I will have to share with you all at some point in the future!
Ok enough about the morning let’s get to the luncheon! Terry arrived with the cake a little before 1 and it was adorable.

I am so grateful to have her in my life to do these things for me J. The anticipation was killing me. Around 1:30 after everyone was at the house we served lunch and then when lunch was over and people were mingling we decided it was time to see what Baby Z is.
Family and friends gathered around and we cut the cake…
Baby Z is a BOY! My aunt had brought two gift bags with her – 1 blue and 1 pink. I got to open the blue one. It contained an outfit and a onesie. The outfit had a monkey on it J
The luncheon was a success, I am glad we did it the way we did. I enjoyed the anticipation and the waiting. It was also fun to find out at the same time as close family and friends. After the luncheon Nutmeg was pooped... she could not stay awake...
Now we are attempting to come up with a name… this is a tough task! We are having some difficulties agreeing.

Happy Spring!

What a beautiful week we are having! Happy First Day of Spring! It was 84 degrees at one point this afternoon. I cannot believe what this weather has done for my mood. I was in such a down mood in February and early March, I wanted to get away, go on vacation to some where warm. I just was not in a chipper mood. With the weather being sunny and bright I have definitely perked up. I feel great now!
I cannot wait to get out and garden. Some flowers are already coming up. Tim expanded my vegetable garden the other day while I was at work. What a great hubby, now I just need to get a load of top soil for the garden and a couple other areas in my flower beds. For veggies this year I am going to try putting some lattice work up so the peas can climb. So far I am going to do – carrots, peas, beans, summer squash, cucumbers, green peppers, and scallions. I also have chives coming up now. I am going to plant pumpkins and zucchini at my in-laws because there is more room there for them to spread. I made add another veggie to the garden because I have 50% more room this year.

I got a great walk in today with my mother-in-law. We walked roughly 3.5 miles and it was nice to just walk and talk. I love walking outside with Nutmeg and having someone else with us to chit chat.

What a Weekend!

Friday night was so much fun! I was excited to see the Jersey Boys show and ride in a new car :) I know it sounds corny, but I love new cars and if I could afford one I would definitely choose a Honda Pilot. They are pretty nice and the ride is smooth. Oh I can only hope to win the lottery... hehe

We had dinner at The Blue Ribbon Diner in Schenectady on State St/Central Ave. I enjoyed the food, the only problem was I thought the menu had too many choices. It is hard to make a decision when there are so many options. I had a delicious Chicken Sandwich and then I could not help myself... I had a piece of Coconut Cream Pie. My absolute favorite pie and they had it right as you walk in the door in a display case calling my name...

When dinner was finished the six of us ladies made our way to Proctor's Theater. This was my second time going to this theater and I really like it. I love the architecture on the inside and the way the stage and audience is set up. We had Orchestra seats for this show and it was a good location. For the Lion King last year we sat in the balcony and we could see everything. There really does not seem to be a bad seat in that place.

The show was great. It was the story of the Four Season in the 60s and 70s. The music was good and the story was full of drama and comedy. It was an overall good show and I can see why Tim's aunt wanted to take us all to see it. She saw it in NYC on Broadway and loved it.

Sunday was a beautiful day! I could not believe it was in the 70s all day and the sun was shining. I had to work until 4pm, but I still got to enjoy three hours of sunlight. This time change is great after you get used to losing that hour of sleep. We went to Tim's parents' house for dinner. Tim asked his mom on Saturday if she would make Ham and Cabbage and she said yes. I love ham, I do not eat it that often, so this was a treat. I am not a fan of cabbage so I had ham, potatoes, and carrots. It was delicious. Before dinner we went outside and played with the dogs.
On our way to dinner.. this was the rare time in the ride she was inside the truck... she loves sticking her head out the window
Bailey waiting for the ball
And I got to see some interesting birds... they were circling the area...

I feel like I may be forgetting something... Hmmm because I am. I never mentioned Saturday... I will have to do another blog entry for that one... Stay Tuned.
