Some Random Things

So after taking a nap this after noon I got up and went looking for some pictures I knew I had from my grandfather. I was hoping to find the wedding picture in the bag but there was not one in there. But I did find a few with me and my grandfather in them.

This is a 4 generation photo, I am the kid on the left

There is my grandfather in the background. I am the baby in the high chair. All of his granddaughters.
It was nice to look at some pictures of him before his body started going. He used to take me to his garden and let me help him work and there was always orange soda in the refrigerator in the garage. I will always have those memories.

For the last few weeks I have been trying to find Candy Corn M & M's. I wanted to see what they were all about. I saw them on a few blogs and wanted to try them. I looked every where! We looked all over NH when we went last week too. T was starting to think I imagined them. But while grocery shopping last week I finally found them!

They are delicious! They are white chocolate M & M's and they are good. I think they taste a little like cotton candy and T thinks they taste like Skittles. (?)

Now it is time to get back to the Monday night comedy line up... HIMYM, 2 Broke Girls, 2 and a Half Men, & Mike & Molly

When I woke up this morning there was frost on my car! Ahhh It is too early for this stuff. I did see the weather for this week and it does not look half bad.
So I woke up before the alarm this morning and got my butt on the treadmill. I watched last night's Pan Am, I really like that show. It has been a few seasons since I actually like new shows and this season I like Pan Am, Hart of Dixie, & Last Man Standing (I think it is hilarious). I did 2.6 miles at 3.5 mph with a 6.5% incline. I think I am going to bump my incline up this week.

My mother in law had a challenge at work to walk 150 miles in 15 weeks. She has completed it, but I am going to try to do it.

I had to get up early today because I went to my grandfather's funeral. It went well and it was good to say goodbye. It is hard, but at least he went peacefully and he is not longer in pain.

Now onto my weigh in. I weighed in at 196.6 which is 1.6 less than last week. This means that I have lost 24 lbs total. I want to start losing more than that again. This is not a bad number, but I just want one week that I am over 2 lbs.
They also redid my points per day again... I lost another point. I am not at 32 points per day. Ugh they really need to stop changing my points, throwing me off.

I am hoping for a good week. I am going to push myself a little harder!

Relaxing Weekend

Sadly Sunday Evening has come. T will have to go to work in the morning :( I am off from work today and tomorrow on bereavement time. I am not looking forward to tomorrow. I have to go to my Grandfather's funeral. He did not want a wake, he put that he wanted a graveside funeral. I will be going with my mom and brother. It will be nice to have the support there and to be with family. I really don't like these types of events, but I know I have to go. Tomorrow is also weigh-in day so I am hoping for a good number.

This was a very relaxing weekend of doing nothing, which was very enjoyable! :) Saturday we volunteered until noon and then took a class for CME credits for our EMT certification. It  was a chilly day here in the Northeast so it was not a big deal to sit in a warm room through a class. I would have had to have taken it at some point, why not now?

Saturday night we did nothing... well not nothing we went to T's parents house to see what they were having for dinner. Baked chicken with baked potatoes... "Sure we will eat here" It was delicious. Then we were bored so we went searching for some games.

First game T found in the closet was "Stadium Checkers." I had never heard of it, so we decided to give it a try. T, his mom, Judy, and I played. It was pretty fun and interesting.

Looks excited right?
They looked excited too...

The second game we found was Yatzee... I love Yatzee :) T and I play it at home all the time, not as much as we should probably, but when we are really bored.

See the monkey? That is Hoodwink - he shows up in odd places... T decided he was going to play Yatzee

Look first game! I got a Yatzee :)

Hoodwink and I

The Dogs wanted to go outside and play in the snow that was coming down...

It was a good night. The drive home was interesting with the snow covered roads. We made it home safe and sound.

When we woke up this morning there was a coating of snow on everything....

Today was spent doing things that we had to catch up on. Now we are cuddling on the couch watching some shows on the DVR.

What are some of your favorite games from your childhood? Games you play now?

We collect the games that look like books from Target. We try to play a game every now and then. We should strive to play more.

Day Off - Friday

Well the snow that fell last night is almost all gone. I just heard though that there is a storm coming. We have a winter storm warning for tomorrow at noon until Sunday at 6 am. Ugh. I guess it is supposed to be worse south of Saratoga, but we have a chance to get 3-6 inches. It is only October people! So I guess that means that tomorrow night will be a night at home with the hubby cuddling? I hope so.

I have been up since T left this morning at 7 ugh. I got home at midnight from work so I kind of wanted to sleep in this morning. I lounged on the couch for a little while then I got ready for my daily treadmill time. My ankle was hurting this morning so I only did 1.5 miles at 7% incline. I wish I had done more, but at least I did something right?

I made a Cheesy Garlic & Ranch Chicken dish for dinner tonight. I am not sure I will like it because of the cheese in it. I am really picky about cheese in food, always have been. Hopefully T and the other people that will be around tonight at the Rescue Squad will like it. T and I have duty tonight from 6pm until noon tomorrow. (We volunteer a few times a month)

Well I guess that is all for now... I will post the recipe for the dish at some point so stay tuned.

Halloween Cupcakes

I will not be at work on Monday aka Halloween, so I decided to make cupcakes for my co-workers today.

It found these and thought they were cute.

I cheated a little and used boxed cake mix (Thanks Betty Crocker).

- Cake Mix (Halloween)
- 3 eggs
- 1/2 cups apple sauce
- 1 cup water

I combined all ingredients... and put into cupcake liners

1/3 cup margarine
1/3 cup crisco
6 cups powdered sugar
1 tbl vanilla
2-3-4 tbls of milk (add until spreadable to your liking)

Mix margarine and powdered sugar together then add the vanilla and milk.

I wanted to make it orange, but I ran out of red. The frosting is still orange, it is just a light orange.

Also a big thanks to SweetToothCourt! I watched your vlog and tried the larger tip and the swirls :)

The guys at work liked them :)

Yummy Mini Oreo & Reese's Stuffed Cookies

So I found this recipe at Picky Palate and thought that they looked good and I wanted to try then sometime... When T came to me and said there was a cookie bake off this week at his work I figured what better opportunity to try them. These are called the Mini ones and on Picky Palate she does make the cookies with the regular sized Oreos, but after making these "mini" ones I would not do the regular sized ones. I think these are plenty big enough and kind of cute :)
Here is my tweaked version....

  • 2 Tablespoon vanilla
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3 1/2 cups of flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup of butter softened (I tend to use Crisco, but today I had margarine in the Fridge)
  • 1 tsp of baking soda
  • 1 bag of mini oreos (in the cookie aisle)
  • 1 or 2 bags of mini Reese's peanut butter cups (depending on how many cookies you want with peanut butter)
~ Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line baking pans with parchment paper.
~ Cream the butter and sugars until well mixed. Add in eggs and vanilla until well mixed
~ In a separate medium bowl mix the flour and baking soda. Slowly add to the wet ingredients until combined.
~Using a teaspoon or a regular spoon (eye ball it) place a ball on the parchment paper. I did the bottom ball for a baking pan full of cookies then set the Oreo on top, then I put the second ball on top and pressed it together. I did about a dozen with the mini peanut butter cups in them.

~Bake in the oven 8-10 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on a cooling rack.

I will be honest - I did not try the Oreo ones, I did try a peanut butter cup one and it was really good.

Snow Way!

I woke up several times last night, mostly when a body part would venture outside of the covers. It was cold in our house last night...
I think this is at 57!
I woke up and my nose was cold. I sat in the living room for a while to see if I could be comfortable in sweats and a sweatshirt but that was a big n-o. I called T and told him I thought it was time to turn the heat on, at least to 62. He said 60, but I put it at 62.

I had a morning of baking and that helped warm me up. T has a cookie challenge tomorrow at work, so I made oreo stuffed cookies for that. I found the original recipe at Picky Palate, but I tweaked it a little bit. I made the cookies with the mini oreos and mini peanut butter cups.(separate cookies of course)

I only had 1 cookie - one of the peanut butter cup ones. I had to get my mug in the shot, I really like the turtle :)
I also made Halloween cupcakes for my co-workers. I will not be at work on Halloween so I decided to make them today. I think they turned out pretty good. I will be posting both recipes in a blog later tonight.

The orange butter cream is not as orange as I wanted it to be, but I ran out of red food coloring. I will have to remember to put that on my grocery list.

After I finally got done with the cookies and the cupcakes, I decided it was time to watch the DVR and visit my friend the treadmill. Today I did 45 minutes, 2.6 miles, with a 6.5% incline at 3.5 mph. It went by pretty fast, I was watching NCIS and that is one of the shows I really get into and lose track of time.

I also did laundry today and noticed that I had enough jeans in the wash to do a load of only jeans. There were 2 pairs of T's jeans and 5 pairs of mine! This is new to me because usually I have my 2 pairs of jeans that are my go-to for everyday stuff. Really they were the only ones that fit well. Now I have all these jeans that are all a little too big. I should go out and buy some smaller ones, but I want to hold off until I am 2 sizes down. I fit into a 12 last weekend, they were just a little snug. If I wait a little while longer, I will not have to spend the money on 14s and then have them be too big as well. You know what I mean?

I forgot to show off some pictures from my walk with my mother-in-law Sunday. We took Sandy & Lilly (my brother-in-laws dogs) with us around the village.

The elementary school ~ I liked the tree

Nutmeg was with T, but she as happy to see her friends S & L when we got back

Sandy was a little tired ~ I love how this dog lays down
Lilly was loving her attention from T

When I came upstairs from my time on the treadmill look what I found...
This is amazing to me that they play and then they can cuddle together
And I looked outside and saw this!

I know I live in Upstate NY, but I am not really ready for the white stuff yet. According to that evil weatherman we are in the 2-4 inches zone. There is a 5k I want to do on Saturday but it is only supposed to be 30 degree when it starts. Eek , I am not sure about this one.

Anyone else cold today?
